A reclamation story
“My story is proof that reclamation works. Sometimes all it takes is one brother who cares enough to make the call and never give up.”
Brother Dinkins was initiated through Delta Mu Chapter in 1983. After graduating and returning home to Yonkers, life took its course — marriage, raising a family, and building a career. In 1998 he and his wife relocated to Congers, and as often happens, fraternity involvement faded into the background.
Years later he crossed paths with Brother Byron Hurlock of Xi Lambda Lambda, who invited him to a chapter meeting. He appreciated the invitation, but wasn't ready to commit. What made the difference was that Brother Hurlock never stopped reaching out — consistent, connected, always reminding him there was a place for him in the Brotherhood.
Eventually Brother Dinkins attended a meeting, was nominated for Vice Basileus by Brother Dr. Edmund W. Gordon, and his journey back into active Omega life began. Since returning to the fold, he has served the brothers of Xi Lambda Lambda and the citizens of Rockland County, later serving as Basileus and being honored as Omega Man of the Year in 2015.
